Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital Observes World Hepatitis B Day

World Hepatitis Day is commemorated each year on 28 July to enhance awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes a range of health problems, including liver cancer.

With this, the Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital and its members as part of its initiatives on health are bent on increasing awareness creation of the disease within the central business center of Takoradi.

This year’s theme,

ACHIEVING THE ELIMINATION OF VIRAL HEPATITIS THROUGH EVOLVING HEALTH SYSTEMS,

aims to raise awareness about the need to simplify and bring hepatitis care to primary health facilities, community-based venues and locations beyond hospital sites, so that care is closer to communities and people wherever they are.

In some time, past, Hepatitis B was a real problem due to low awareness of the disease. In Ghana Hepatitis B and C was one of the leading causes of liver problems hence there was a need to promote and encourage people to be screened and vaccinated.

According to the Medical Superintendent of Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital Dr. Edward Donkor, gradually a lot of corporate bodies and health practitioners being led by the Ghana Health service and the WHO added their voice in promoting Hepatitis B. A lot of Ghanaians went through screening and got vaccinated.

The entire program was sponsored by Panacea Pharmaceuticals, Evans Pharmaceuticals, Unichem Ghana Ltd, Kippax Pharmaceuticals, Befics Ltd, Nestle Ghana and was led by Dr. Edward Donkor (Medical Superintendent) and Miss Gertrude Baa (The Nurse Manager) Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital
