GC VICE PRESIDENT DEDICATES FIRST ADVENTIST SCHOOL BUILDING IN KUMDI, A LANDMARK MOMENT FOR NORTH GHANA MISSION
History was made in the North Ghana Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, marking the dedication of its first-ever permanent school building in the Kumdi community. This historic moment was graced by the presence of Pastor (Dr.) Pierre E. Omeler, Vice President of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church, alongside other distinguished leaders from the Atlantic Union Conference and the North American Division. Their visit not only commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the North Ghana Mission but also reaffirmed the global church’s commitment to mission advancement through education, hope, and community transformation.
Upon their arrival at the Tamale Airport, the delegation received a warm and spirited welcome from officers of the North-Central Ghana Union Mission, the Mid-Ghana Union Conference, and the North Ghana Mission, along with elders, pastors, and local church leaders. The two-day visit was held under the inspiring theme: “I Will Go: Advancing Adventist Education for Mission and Transformation.”
Representing the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ghana, Pastor (Dr.) Kwame Annor-Boahen, President of the Mid-Ghana Union Conference, officially welcomed Pastor Omeler. He commended the GC Vice President’s unwavering dedication to global mission, describing him as a man with a deep love for Africa and a heart for underserved communities.
The highlight of the visit occurred on Sabbath, May 31, when Pastor Omeler and his delegation journeyed to Kumdi to dedicate the newly constructed Kumdi Adventist Basic School building. Funded by the Atlantic Union Conference in the United States, the school building stands as the first permanent educational structure in the area. For 23 years—since its establishment in 2002—the school operated under trees and in makeshift shelters, exposing children to harsh weather conditions and hampering effective learning.
The dedication ceremony drew an enthusiastic crowd, including students, teachers, traditional leaders, church members, and community residents from Kumdi and its environs. The atmosphere was one of celebration and gratitude, with heartfelt songs of praise and thanksgiving testifying to God’s faithfulness and the power of global mission partnership.
Pastor (Dr.) Edward Nyarkoh, President of the North-Central Ghana Union Mission, expressed deep appreciation to the Atlantic Union Conference and the visiting leaders. He praised their vision and leadership and used the occasion to appeal for more partnerships—both within and outside the church—to help the newly formed Union expand its educational and health infrastructure across the region.
Pastor George Kossi-Ekao Amouzou, President of the North Ghana Mission, spoke with deep emotion, saying, “This is a dream come true—not just for Kumdi, but for the entire Mission as we mark 75 years of God’s leading. For over two decades, our children studied in conditions unfit for learning. But today, through the love and generosity of our Adventist family overseas, the story has changed. God has remembered Kumdi.”
He added, “May the Lord bless the Atlantic Union Conference and everyone who made this possible. This structure will not only provide shelter for learning but will also serve as a beacon of hope, dignity, and transformation for future generations.”
The visit of Pastor Omeler—coinciding with the North Ghana Mission’s 75th Anniversary celebrations—reaffirmed the global church's commitment to advancing mission in neglected territories. It also highlighted the transformative power of Adventist education in building communities, changing lives, and preparing souls for Christ’s soon return.History was made in the North Ghana Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, marking the dedication of its first-ever permanent school building in the Kumdi community.
