ADVENTIST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, SEKYERE, COMMISSIONS "PASTOR KWABENA TWUM SCIENCE LABORATORY

A newly constructed science laboratory was commissioned on June 18th, 2025, at the Adventist Senior High School, Sekyere, Eastern Region, Ghana, in a ceremony marked by gratitude and hope for the future of STEM education.

The facility, named in honor of Pastor Kwabena Twum a dedicated minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ghana, was made possible through the generosity of a philanthropist who prioritized science education.

Dignitaries in attendance included Pastor T.T. Ocran, Pastor Bright Osei Yeboah, the General Director of Adventist Schools, the SESDAC Board Chairman, Conference President, local pastors, the Atiwa DCE, District Education Director, political representatives, traditional leaders (Nananom), and Old Students Association members.

In the President's welcome address, he expressed gratitude to all attendees and emphasised the importance of STEM education. STEM education has come to stay, he declared, and we are thrilled to see this project commissioned to the glory of God and for the benefit of students who will learn here, grow, and contribute meaningfully to our nation.

The DCE for Atiwa, visibly moved, shared that this was his first public engagement since assuming office. He believes this laboratory will greatly impact education in this district, he said. He pledge to support this school in every way possible to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Madam Lydia Abrefi, the General Director of Adventist Schools and the driving force behind the project, explained that the donor chose to honour his father, Pastor Kwabena Twum, rather than take credit for himself. The donor believes science is crucial in today’s world and hopes this facility will inspire excellence, she stated.

The commissioning ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting by the DCE and Nananom followed by a tour of the facility, which left guests impressed.

The Head of the Science Department described the project as a long-awaited blessing, expressing confidence that students would now achieve better academic results. A science student also shared excitement over the new lab, saying, "We have been eagerly waiting for this, and we are grateful to the donors.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Madam Kyerewa, Assistant Headmistress, and a Closing prayer  by Pastor Bright Osei Yeboah.
