ACCRA CITY CONFERENCE LAUNCHES COUNSELING UNIT: A NEW ERA IN MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

The Seventh-day Adventist Church Accra City Conference has taken a significant step towards supporting the mental health and well-being of its members and the broader community with the official launch of its Counseling Unit. This initiative marks a new chapter in the church's commitment to providing holistic care and support to individuals and families.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church Accra City Conference is a vibrant and dynamic community of believers that seek to serve God and humanity. The Counseling Unit aims to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can receive professional counseling and support. The unit will offer individual and group therapy sessions, as well as support groups, and will be staffed by qualified psychologists and counselors. The President of the Accra City Conference, Pastor Dr. Solomon Okoe Trebi Hammond, was upbeat about the launch of the counseling unit, stating that it is a much-needed resource for the church and the community.

The church has selected a team of experts to lead the counseling unit, including Mrs. Patience Osei, Pastor Elijah Benyi, Pastor Dr. Kingsley Osei, Pastor Daniel Abaidoo Bediaba, and Chaplain ASP Samuel Danso Marfoh. These individuals are qualified psychologists with certificates recognized by the church and the country.

The Counseling Unit will organize a seminar on "Resilience in Transition: Mental Health, Leadership Change, and Well-being" on October 27th. The seminar aims to equip pastors, leaders, and families with practical tools and biblical principles to navigate transitions with courage and grace.

The Executive Secretary of the Southern Ghana Union Conference, Pastor Dr. Chris Annan Nuuno, was grateful to the organizers and promised to support the counseling unit. For him the unit is vital in providing support to pastors and members, and noted that it will be a valuable resource for the church.

Reverend Professor Samuel Oheneba Dornyo, founder and president of the Oheneba Dornyo University College of Counseling Psychology, said the counseling unit will be a place where lives can be healed, relationships restored, and individuals can find solutions to their problems.

The church plans to expand the counseling unit to other districts and conferences, and to provide training for pastors and leaders in counseling and mental health support. The unit will also be working closely with other organizations and professionals to provide comprehensive support to individuals and families.
