HEADMISTRESS OF ADVENTIST GIRLS SHS APPEALS FOR SUPPORT

The Headmistress of Adventist Girls Senior High School, Mrs. Selina Anane Afoakwa, has made a passionate appeal to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, old students, philanthropists, and the general public to support the school in addressing pressing infrastructural and logistical challenges.

She made this appeal, at the school premises in Ntonso, a suburb of the Kwabre East Municipality in the Ashanti Region, during the celebration of the school’s annual Institutional Choir Day.

Currently, students are forced to use a smaller church building that cannot accommodate the school’s growing population of over 1,800 students, a situation she described as highly inconvenient. She further explained that although the school has adequate classroom and dormitory blocks, the lack of furniture, beds, and dining hall tables and chairs has prevented them from transitioning to a single-track system, which would greatly ease pressure on teaching and learning.

The Institutional Choir Day, which was celebrated in grand style, brought together several invited choral groups such as Divine Chorale, SOH Notes, and the Agona SDA Senior High School Choir. The event highlighted the school’s musical excellence and the contribution of the choir to the cultural and spiritual life of the institution.

Giving a brief history of the choir, Mrs. Christiana Obeng Mensah, Senior Housemistress of the school, recalled that the choir was established in 2006 through the efforts of Mrs. Grace Kafui Ayi, then a music teacher at the school and now the Headmistress of SDA Senior High School, Bantama. She noted that the initiative also gained strong support from dedicated pioneer students such as Abena Pokuaa Abigail and the late Ellen White. Over the years, the choir has won admiration across the Ashanti Region for its outstanding performances.

As part of the celebration, the school honored Mrs. Grace Kafui Ayi with a plaque presented by the current Headmistress, Mrs. Selina Anane Afoakwa, in recognition of her foundational role in establishing and nurturing the choir.

Speaking in an interview with Hope Adventist News, Mrs. Afoakwa lamented the collapse of the school’s main church building, which has disrupted several key activities including examinations, worship services, and social gatherings.

Adding his voice to the call for support, the school’s Senior Chaplain, Pastor Dr. Patrick Oteng Sarfo, appealed to the church and benevolent individuals to assist in rebuilding the collapsed church building. He emphasized that the chapel is not only a place of worship but also a vital center for evangelism. Over the years, the school has baptized more than 300 students into the Seventh-day Adventist faith, making the institution a significant hub for soul-winning.

Mrs. Afoakwa concluded by stressing that with urgent intervention and collective support, Adventist Girls Senior High School could overcome its current challenges and continue to provide holistic education that combines academic excellence with spiritual and moral development.
