MID-GHANA UNION CONFERENCE COMMISSIONS ULTRA-MODERN CLASSROOM BLOCK FOR ASAMANG SDA NURSING AND MIDWIFERY TRAINING COLLEGE
The Mid-Ghana Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church commissioned a magnificent three-story ultra-modern classroom block for the Asamang SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) at Asamang in the Ashanti Region. The edifice, which was initiated in 2015, stands as a testament to the Union’s commitment to advancing Adventist education and health training in Ghana.
The project was made possible through the generous support of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, funded by the Thirteenth Sabbath Overflow Offering, popularly known as “Overflow.” This global initiative pools offerings from members worldwide to support mission-oriented projects such as this one.
The commissioning ceremony drew together dignitaries, church leaders, and traditional authorities. Among the notable attendees were Pastor Dr. Dickson Osafo Marfo (Treasurer, West-Central Africa Division – WAD), Elder Owusu Danquah (Associate Treasurer, WAD), Pastor Dr. Kwame Kwanin Boakye, Pastor Dr. Kwame Annor Boahen (President, Mid-Ghana Union Conference), Pastor Jonathan Owusu (President, Ashanti Central Ghana Conference), Pastor Augustine Adu Gyamfi (President, Ashanti South Ghana Conference), and Dr. James Antwi (Director, Ghana Adventist Health Services), among others.
In a goodwill message, Nana Kwakwa, representing the Asamanghene, commended Dr. Mrs. Yvonne Asiedu, former Principal of the college, for her selfless service and remarkable leadership during her tenure. He also appealed to government authorities to prioritize the construction of the access road leading to the school to complement its modern facilities.
Delivering his remarks, Dr. James Antwi, Director of the Ghana Adventist Health Services, expressed gratitude to the Church’s headquarters and the WAD for their immense support. He called for more infrastructural developments in other Adventist health institutions across the country to meet the growing demand for quality health education.
In an interview with Pastor Dr. Kwame Annor Boahen, President of the Mid-Ghana Union Conference, he explained how funding for the project was mobilized and urged the school administration to prioritize a culture of maintenance to preserve the edifice for generations. He also disclosed that plans are underway to expand facilities and introduce male enrollment into the college in the near future.
The Principal of the College, Mrs. Ellen Opoku Boamah, expressed profound gratitude for the project, describing it as a huge boost to the college’s academic life. She encouraged students to take their studies seriously and return to contribute to the growth of the institution after graduation.
In recognition of support, the college presented a citation and a traditional Kente cloth to Pastor Dr. Dickson Osafo Marfo, former Treasurer of the Mid-Ghana Union Conference and now Treasurer of the West-Central Africa Division, for his instrumental role in advancing the project.
The ceremony climaxed with a dedication prayer, ribbon-cutting, and unveiling of the building by church executives, traditional leaders, and stakeholders, symbolizing the official opening of the classroom block for use.
The new facility will not only ease congestion in the college but also provide a conducive learning environment, aligning with the Adventist Church’s mission to combine health, education, and spirituality in training professionals for service to God and humanity.
