GHANA ADVENTIST HEALTH SERVICES HOLDS 5-DAY AGM TO STRENGTHEN MISSION AND HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
The Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS) has organized its five-day Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Elmina, Central Region, under the theme “Strengthening Health Through Service, Mission, and Education.”
The gathering brought together distinguished leaders and stakeholders, including Pastor Dr. Kwame Annor-Boahen, President of the Mid-West Ghana Union Conference; Pastor Dr. T. T. Ocran, President of the South Ghana Union Conference; Pastor Dr. Isaac Amoah Saah, President of the Mid-South Ghana Conference; Dr. James Antwi, Director of GAHS; Dr. Peter Yeboah, Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG); and Hon. Ismile Zakuno Sidy, Municipal Chief Executive of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem. Also in attendance were directors, healthcare leaders, workers, and members of the Adventist health network.
In his keynote address, Pastor Dr. Kwame Annor-Yeboah emphasized that healthcare is not merely a profession but a sacred calling rooted in compassion, dedication, and service to humanity. He stressed that Adventist health workers are called to combine professional excellence with spiritual values, ensuring that their care meets not only the physical needs of patients but also their emotional and spiritual well-being.
He further highlighted the role of education in healthcare delivery, noting that it is the foundation of sustainable health systems. According to him, education equips professionals to adopt innovations, improve practices, and nurture future leaders who will continue the mission of holistic care.
Speaking on behalf of the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Eduamoah Panyin, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ismile Zakuno Sidy, underscored the government’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare as a cornerstone of national development. He explained that without good health, productivity declines, families suffer, and national growth is hindered. He, however, acknowledged that the state alone cannot shoulder the burden of healthcare delivery. Strategic partnerships with faith-based and peer organizations such as GAHS, he said, are crucial, particularly in reaching underserved communities.
Pastor Dr. T. T. Ocran commended the leadership of GAHS, particularly Dr. James Antwi, for the innovative initiatives being rolled out, including the “Ndoboa Project.” He described it as a powerful strategy to support smaller and weaker health facilities, enabling them to grow and serve their communities effectively.
He also stressed the indispensable role of chaplaincy in mission-based institutions like GAHS, pointing out that spiritual support must remain an integral part of Adventist healthcare delivery.
